Register Staff Report
Richmond police learned Tuesday that one of four men charged with kidnapping a woman Monday morning is wanted in Detroit for assault with intent to murder and other felony charges.
The suspect, who identified himself as Marcus Rogers, turned out to be Erroll Foster Johnson, 24, according to RPD Chief Larry Brock.
In addition to three counts of assault with intent to murder, Johnson is wanted on charges of discharging a firearm in or at a building and a felony weapons violation, Brock stated in a news release.
Michigan authorities intend to extradite Johnson, and a fugitive warrant has been served on him at the Madison County Detention Center where he remained Tuesday afternoon.
Also, the kidnapping suspect who identified himself as David West, 23, of Louisville, is facing additional charges.
West was convicted of a felony in Louisiana, police said they discovered, and they charged him Tuesday with being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
Johnson and West were arrested early Monday along with James C. Fleming, 32, Aqueduct Drive, and Antwon Brown, 30, address unknown, after a man told police late Sunday he believed an adult female relative was being held against her will in a vehicle.
About 2:20 a.m. Monday, police stopped a vehicle matching the provided description on an Interstate 75 Exit 90 on-ramp.
Officers found four men in the vehicle with a woman who said she was being prevented from leaving, according to the police report. Just before the vehicle was stopped, two firearms were thrown from it, the officers said they were told. Both weapons were recovered, the police report stated.
While searching the vehicle, officers found 11 hydrocodone pills and about 1.6 grams of heroin near the areas where Brown and West were sitting, the police report stated. The two were additionally charged with second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and first-degree possession of a controlled substance.
Johnson also was originally charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, after 10 small baggies of methamphetamine and a bag of marijuana were found on his person at the jail, the report added.
All four men remained jailed Tuesday evening, according to the detention center’s online records.
