Man charged with endangerment, DUI after accident with child in car

RICHMOND — Brian H. Abner, 38, of Lee Drive, was arrested on wanton endangerment and other charges Friday after he was involved in a traffic accident, according to a Richmond police report.

At approximately 8:26 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Highland Park Drive to investigate a report of an accident in which the driver was possibly intoxicated.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Abner had lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree.

A 9-year-old child was in the vehicle when the accident occurred, and Abner was determined by officers to be intoxicated. The child was not injured in the accident, and was released to a responsible relative, according to the report.

Abner was charged with second-degree wanton endangerment, driving under the influence, possession of an open alcohol container in a vehicle and driving without registration or insurance.

He was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

At approximately 12:03 p.m., Patton and another man were engaged in an argument in the parking lot of the Speedway on the Eastern Bypass, according to a police news release. During the dispute, Patton allegedly approached the victim's vehicle and struck him twice in the face, breaking his nose.
