UPDATED: Sheriff’s office investigates Berea death

BEREA — Madison Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a Berea woman early Friday morning.

Deputies and Berea police responded to a call for assistance from EMS personnel at 1041 Verna Lane, according to an MSO news report.

Two unresponsive women were found in a room at the address.

The women were taken by ambulance to Saint Joseph Berea, where one of them died, according to Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison.

He identified the deceased woman as 37-year-old Doris Amanda Meadows.

The coroner said the cause of death could not be determined until a blood toxicology report is received.

The other woman, who Cornelison said was Meadows’ mother, was treated and later released, the report stated.

Deputies also found three other people in the Verna Lane residence – a man, a woman and a 4-year-old child. As the incident was being investigated, the man was cited for marijuana possession, the MSO report stated.

The woman, 35-year-old Treva Perales of Lexington, was arrested on the strength of a Rockcastle County warrant charging her with first-degree possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence, the report stated.

She was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center just after 3 a.m. and released at 2:25 p.m., according to the jail’s online records.

Deputies contacted workers with the state Cabinet for Health and Family Services who placed the child with family members, the report added.
