Man facing additional charges after police say he took impounded vehicle

RICHMOND — A man who was being booked into the Madison County Detention Center on a DUI charge Friday is facing additional charges after police said he attempted to flee from the jail, later removed his vehicle from an impoundment and again tried to flee.

Robert S. Hurlburt, 50, Travis Drive, was initially charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.

The arrest followed a complaint that Hurlburt was intoxicated in his vehicle at a car wash on Sylvia Drive, the police report stated.

Hurlburt was taken to the detention center where an additional charge of second-degree escape was placed against him after he unsuccessfully attempted to flee from the jail, the report added.

His vehicle was towed from the car wash and impounded at Dargavell’s Towing.

On Sunday morning after his release from the jail, Dargavell representatives reported that the chain had been cut from the gate of their facility overnight, and Hurlburt’s vehicle had been removed.

Officers went to Hurlburt’s residence where they reported finding the vehicle. When they attempted to make contact with him and he learned of their presence, Hurlburt ran from the back door but officers chase him down, according to the report.

Police said Hurlburt was intoxicated, and he was charged with second-degree fleeing or evading police and alcohol intoxication in addition to charges related to the removal of his vehicle from impoundment. Those include: theft of services, second-degree criminal trespassing and third-degree criminal mischief.

A woman was charged Monday with providing police with a false identity after a DUI arrest.

Jamie M. Brock, 36, of Battlefield Memorial Highway, was charged Feb. 24 with DUI and no operator’s license after police responded to a complaint of an intoxicated driver on Lexington Road near Keeneland Drive. When Brock was arrested, she provided a Social Security card bearing the name and number of another person, and she was lodged in the MCDC under the name provided, according to the police report.

On Monday, the person whose name Brock had used contacted police to report that she had received notice to appear in court concerning the charges filed against Brock. When she viewed Brock’s booking photograph, the innocent party recognized her and provided the arresting officer with her true identity, the report added.

Brock was then charged with identity theft at the jail where she was still being held.

Anyone with information about these cases is asked to contact the Richmond Police Department at 623-1162.
