RPD seeks information on recent thefts

RICHMOND — The Richmond Police Department is requesting information relating to a number of recent thefts. Anyone with information about these cases is asked to call the Richmond Police Department at 623-1162.

Sunday

• A resident in the 200 block of Keystone Drive reported a black JVC CD/DVD in-dash stereo, touch screen and a 32-gigabyte iPod Touch, all worth $650, were stolen from his parked vehicle overnight.

Saturday

• Officers responded to a possible burglary at A and F Shell on Northgate Drive. Upon arrival, the officers noticed a window on the north side of the building had been broken out with a large rock.

The owner of the store told police that eight to 10 cartons of cigarettes were the only items stolen.

The officers checked the area for the suspect but were unable to find the person. An observer told police the suspect ran toward the rear of the Super 7 Motel wearing blue jeans, brown work boots and a gray or light blue hoodie or jacket. The estimated loss of goods and damaged property is $500.

• A complainant reported several building materials that were being used to remodel a business had been stolen from a parking lot in the 200 block of Geri Lane. Reported missing was 198 pieces of both treated and untreated lumber in various lengths, 90 4-feet by 8-feet sheets of plywood and three rolls of Everbilt house wrap totaling $1,572.76.

Thursday

• The owner of J&S Varieties on Boggs Lane reported that the store was broken into through a window during the past day and three guitars worth $479 were stolen. Reported missing was a Fender Squire electric guitar with a sunburnt finish, a smokey-blue unknown brand guitar and an unknown brand 12-string acoustic guitar with a wood finish.

Wednesday

• An Alycia Drive resident reported several items were stolen from her residence between Dec. 7 and Dec. 23 while four guests were staying at her apartment. Reported missing were two black iPhone 4, two 32-gigabyte SD cards, two 16-gigabyte SD cards, a black Nintendo Wii U controller, an LG Spectrum cell phone, three Blu-Ray movies, a ladies’ two-tone size 7 gold ring, an 18-inch silver necklace with Tinker Bell emblems, a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 cell phone, a blue Fox wallet and three video games totaling $2,160.

Dec. 30

• A Madison County Schools representative reported that eight Deka 12-volt batteries and eight battery cables, totaling $920, had been stolen from four school buses parked outside Clark Moores Middle School sometime during the previous three days.

• A Walmart patron reported that she left her black iPhone 5 worth $850 in a green and brown tortoise shell case at a self-checkout station and when she returned for it about 15 minutes later the phone was missing.

  • Mother pleads guilty to allowing child rape

    Deanna Lawson, charged with 20 counts of complicity in the rape and sodomy of a minor, pleaded guilty in Madison Circuit Court on Wednesday.
    Between October 2011 and September 2012, Eric Kelley had sexual relations with Lawson’s two daughters, according to court documents.
    She was charged with complicity after police said they learned Lawson knew of the crimes but didn’t try to stop them or alert authorities.

  • No extra jail time for parents on prostitution charge

    Anthony and Kathy Hart, two Madison County residents who pleaded guilty May 21 to prostituting their daughters, won’t be seeing any extra time in jail.
    Both parents, who served time in jail while their charges were pending, were sentenced to probation Thursday in Madison Circuit Court.

  • RPD arrests three on drug charges

    A couple is facing several charges after police said they sold drugs to an undercover officer late last year.
    In December 2013, the Richmond Police Narcotics Unit purchased a quantity of suboxone strips from Ryan Anderson, 30, and Chastity L. King, 28, on two occasions during a covert investigation, according to an RPD news release.

    A Detroit man who led police in a brief vehicle chase May 8 and then attempted to hide in a ditch will spend 120 days in jail after pleading guilty to reduced charges Wednesday in Madison District Court.
