Passenger arrested on drug charges; driver flees

BEREA — Berea police arrested 23-year-old Alaina Hammonds of Berea on drug charges after a May 8 traffic stop.

Police conducted the traffic stop on Menelaus Road, and the driver of the vehicle fled on foot. The officers were unable to find him.  

The officers reported speaking to Hammonds, who was a passenger in the vehicle, and they obtained a warrant to search her purse, according to a BPD report.

In her purse, the officers reported finding a soda can with a blue substance on the bottom and a spoon that also had the substance on it.

Hammonds told police the substance was Percocet, the report stated. She was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

BEREA THEFTS

May 8

A resident in the 500 Block of Hwy. 1016 reported that a lawn mower, worth $60, had been stolen.  The victim stated that the mower was taken from the yard of the residence.  



Thursday

Officers were called to Dollar General on Prince Royal Drive in reference to a theft. Store employees said a man and woman came in the store and concealed items in the woman’s purse. The two then left without paying. Estimated loss: $30.



Friday

A resident in the 100 Block of Adams Street reported items were stolen from a parked vehicle. A passenger-side window was broken out and several items were stolen. Estimated loss: $470.



Saturday

A resident in the 100 Block of South Cumberland Street reported a theft from a storage shed. The victim stated that a lock had been cut from the shed and several tools, worth a total of $400, were taken.  



Sunday

A resident in the 400 Block of Jackson Street reported that a generator, worth $350, was stolen from inside of a box trailer.

Officers were called to the Old Town Amish Food Store in reference to a theft. Store employees stated that produce, worth a total of $400, had been stolen from a stand in the parking lot overnight.  

Misdemeanor arrests

From Friday to Saturday, the Berea police charged two people, in separate incidents, with alcohol intoxication in a public place.
