Woman charged with passing $830 in forged checks

Berea crime reports

BEREA — A McKee woman was arrested June 14 following an investigation into forged checks.

Berea police allege that 31-year-old Mindy Fish used checks that didn’t belong to her to make several purchases totaling $830. She was charged with two felonies, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and tampering with physical evidence.

June 13

• Officers were called to Circle K on Richmond Road in reference to a counterfeit $10 bill that was passed at the store. A store employee said she discovered the bill was fake when she marked it with a counterfeit marker. The bill was collected and logged into evidence. 

June 11

• Officers were called to Radio Shack in reference to a theft. Store employees said they discovered two empty camera packages on one of the shelves. They said that someone removed the cameras from the packaging and took them from the store. Estimated loss is $379.98.

June 9

• Officers were called to Tim and Susie’s Antiques on Chestnut Street in reference to a broken window. A resident in the area stated that he heard glass break in the early morning hours and noticed that the business had a broken window when he came out of his apartment. Officers made contact with the business owners and found that no one had entered the business. The damages are estimated to be $250.

Misdemeanor arrests

On June 15, a woman was charged with alcohol intoxication in public place in the parking lot of the Berea city swimming pool.

On June 12, a woman was charged with alcohol intoxication in public place on South Dogwood Drive.

  • Mother pleads guilty to allowing child rape

    Deanna Lawson, charged with 20 counts of complicity in the rape and sodomy of a minor, pleaded guilty in Madison Circuit Court on Wednesday.
    Between October 2011 and September 2012, Eric Kelley had sexual relations with Lawson’s two daughters, according to court documents.
    She was charged with complicity after police said they learned Lawson knew of the crimes but didn’t try to stop them or alert authorities.

  • No extra jail time for parents on prostitution charge

    Anthony and Kathy Hart, two Madison County residents who pleaded guilty May 21 to prostituting their daughters, won’t be seeing any extra time in jail.
    Both parents, who served time in jail while their charges were pending, were sentenced to probation Thursday in Madison Circuit Court.

    In December 2013, the Richmond Police Narcotics Unit purchased a quantity of suboxone strips from Ryan Anderson, 30, and Chastity L. King, 28, on two occasions during a covert investigation, according to an RPD news release.
