RPD: Man used internet, texting to contact child for sex

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — A Smith Village man was charged Tuesday with the rape of an 11-year-old child after using social media and text messages to contact her, according to Richmond police.

James W. Guy II, 19, is facing charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and prohibited use of electronic communication system to procure a minor for sex.

The RPD began investigating Monday after receiving a complaint, according to a police news release. The investigators allege that Guy used social media and text messaging to “engage an 11-year-old female in sexual activities.”

Guy was interviewed at the Richmond Police Department where he later arrested and taken to the Madison County Detention Center.
