BPD: Gas station worker stole $820 from business

Register Staff Report

BEREA — A gas station worker was arrested Thursday after her employer reported she stole $820 in December and January, according to a Berea police report.

Lindsey Carpenter, 23, of Berea, was charged with theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking (more than $500) and tampering with physical evidence.

A manager at the Shell on Prince Royal Drive told police that Carpenter had made several transactions with her debit card but would unplug the credit card machine before making the purchase, the report stated.

Carpenter said she did this because she knew her account was in the negative, according to the BPD.

She was taken to the Madison County Detention Center and was released later that day.
