Woman driving with mother, child, is facing endangerment, drug charges

RICHMOND — A Richmond woman, whose mother and 10-year-old child were with her, was arrested on drug charges after a single-vehicle accident Wednesday.

An officer was dispatched to Chris Drive off East Irvine Street at 12:25 p.m. to investigate a single-vehicle, non-injury accident, according to a Richmond Police report.

The officer determined the driver, Patricia Mays, 44, of Hays Fork Lane was under the influence of drugs, the report stated, and she was taken into custody.

A search of her purse recovered 12 klonopin pills, 20.5 oxycodone pills and eight alprazolam pills, the report added.

Mays was charged with first- and third-degree possession of a controlled substance, second-degree wanton endangerment and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

She was taken to the Madison County Detention Center where she remained Thursday afternoon, according to the jail’s online records.

Theft at ATM investigated

At approximately 6:18 p.m. Monday police met with a complainant who said a man she asked to help her with an ATM transaction took money from her.

The woman told police she asked Carl Banks, 34, of Ballard Drive to take her to a downtown ATM so she could withdraw money.

After they arrived, she provided him with her ATM card and PIN, but attempts to withdraw money appeared to be unsuccessful. Banks pulled out of the drive-thru lane and parked, returning to the ATM on foot, the report stated.

He returned but told the victim that he was still unable to withdraw cash.

Later in the day, however, she checked her bank account and found that $430 had been withdrawn when they were at the ATM, the victim told police.

Police located and interviewed Banks who was cited and released on a charge of theft by unlawful taking (under $500). The money was not recovered, the police report stated.

Anyone with information about these cases is asked to call Richmond Police at 623-1162.
