Register Staff Report
The suspect in an early morning May 20 shooting at the Manhattan Club, in which one victim suffered a gunshot wound to his leg, was arrested Monday by a Madison County Sheriff’s deputy.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Richard C. Duerson, 34, soon after the incident.
Police were dispatched to the club when an officer reported hearing the sound of multiple gun shots coming from the area, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.
Officers found several bullet holes in the club’s front glass door and discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the back of the leg, just above the knee. He was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of the non-life-threatening injury, the police report stated.
Several Manhattan Club employees told police Duerson was escorted out of the club, Brock said after the incident. He attempted to return, but was removed a second time, police said they were told.
Officers gathered enough witness information to indicate that Duerson “brandished an item” and the gunshots were heard shortly thereafter, according to Brock.
Duerson was charged with first- and fourth-degree assault as well as first-degree wanton endangerment and third-degree terroristic threatening.
He remained Wednesday evening in the Madison County Detention Center under a $100,000 cash bond, according to jail officials.
