Five indicted in kidnapping case

RICHMOND — A Madison grand jury indicted five people last week in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a woman in October.

Jennifer Isaacs, James C. Flemming, 23; Darneau Maddox (aka. Antwon Brown), 20; Erroll Johnson (aka. Marcus Rogers), 24; and Norman West (aka. David West), 23, all were charged with kidnapping Brittany Fritz.

Kidnapping is a Class B felony punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison.

Johnson, Maddox and West also were indicted on three sets of charges for first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine, oxycodone and heroin).

The trafficking charges were enhanced against West and Maddox because they are accused of being in possession of a firearm. West was charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Maddox, Johnson and West also were indicted on a charge of tampering with physical evidence.

The four men were arrested Oct. 13 after police  received a report that an adult female relative was being held against her will in a vehicle, according to a Richmond police report.

Police stopped a vehicle matching the description at an Interstate 75 Exit 90 on-ramp. Flemming, Maddox, Johnson and West were inside the vehicle with a woman who told police she was being held against her will, the report stated.

The officers reported that two handguns were thrown from the vehicle before it was stopped, and 11 hydrocodone pills and 1.6 grams of heroin were found inside it.

After his arrest, Richmond police learned that Johnson was wanted in Detroit on three counts of assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm in or at a building.

The four men remain in the Madison County Detention Center. There is no local record of an arrest for Jennifer Isaacs.

Other indictments handed down Wednesday:

• Anthony Clemmons, 29, receiving stolen property (more than $500)

• William Dale Steele, 37, two counts of theft by deception
