RPD: Woman attacked driver of vehicle, causing it to run off road

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — A Foxhaven Drive woman was arrested Sunday after police say she attacked a man while he was driving, causing him to run off the road and into a curb.

A 3-year-old child in her care also was in the vehicle, according to the Richmond police report.

Amber E. Hatfield, 25, was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, fourth-degree assault, alcohol intoxication, resisting arrest, second-degree disorderly conduct and illegal possession of a legend drug.

Officers were dispatched at 7:18 p.m. to South Keeneland Drive after receiving a report that a woman was assaulting a man inside a vehicle stopped on the roadside, according to the report.

When the officers approached the vehicle, the male driver said Hatfield was intoxicated and had bitten and scratched him.

He reported that Hatfield struck him in the face, which caused his vehicle to strike the curb and storm drain on the roadside. The vehicle had minor damage.

The vehicle was still on the roadside when police reached it, the report stated.

The officers approached Hatfield who refused to get out of the vehicle and had to be forcibly removed, according to the report.

The officers reported she continued to be loud and disorderly while being taken to the police cruiser. After she was taken to the Madison County Detention Center, officers found three loose prescription pills (tizanidine) in her purse, the report stated.

The child was released to a responsible relative, according to the RPD.
