Berea man arrested on child pornography charges

BEREA — Kentucky State Police assisted by Madison Sheriff’s Office deputies Wednesday arrested a Berea man on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.

Brian J. Smith, 26, had been under investigation by the electronic crimes branch of the state police after it discovered he had shared images of child sexual exploitation online, according to a KSP report.

Troopers and deputies executed a search warrant at Smith’s residence Wednesday evening where they seized equipment he may have used to facilitate the crime, the report stated. The equipment was sent to the KSP forensic laboratory for examination.

Smith was charged with multiple counts of possession and distribution of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor, but the investigation is ongoing, the report stated.

Smith was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center where he remained Thursday evening, according to the jail’s online records.
