Union City Day is coming soon. On Saturday, May 17, the village will come alive as people gather to have yard sales, listen to music, visit neighbors and other activities. Food will be available and various organizations will be present with displays and information.
The Ruritan Club is selling $5 raffle tickets for drawings to be conducted on Union City Day. The prizes will include a $1,000 riding lawn mower, two weed trimmers, a leaf blower and several cash prizes. The two businesses supplying these products are Southern States and Bluegrass Hardware. You can get tickets from Ruritan members or call Robert Murphy at 623-9461.
We had the two grandchildren, Landon and Ryan, with us last weekend. I took 5-year-old Landon fishing Friday morning on Lake Reba. The wind made the water choppy, but we found a calm spot that was sheltered from the wind and he caught the first fish, a 7-inch bluegill. I caught six more, but it was his fish that made the day because he made the cast and reeled it in all by himself.
Flatwoods Christian Church at Waco hosted the quarterly Singspiration last Sunday night with a full house. More than 150 were in attendance from the following churches: First Christian, Irvine; Rice Station Christian; River Drive Christian; Speedwell Christian; Doylesville United Methodist; and Flatwoods.
In case you have not heard, there was a quiet wedding last Friday evening. Wilma McGuire of Doylesville married Tommy Halcomb of College Hill. Congratulations and best wishes go out to the newlyweds.
Our former Union City neighbor, Jessie Robinson, has a birthday on Saturday. If you would like to send her a card, the address is: The Terrace, 1043 Brooklyn Blvd, P.O. Box 1048, Berea, KY 40403.
Happy anniversary wishes go out to Roy and Barbara Clark who celebrated 40 years with family and friends at the Union City Christian Church Fellowship Hall last Saturday afternoon.
