It’s late Sunday evening this first week of May — already — and it has slipped by so fast and it’s difficult to recall what I did and if I ever accomplished anything. The weather has been and very pleasing with a sunrise every morning that would take your breath away and give you a few minutes of joy not soon forgotten.
I have this incredible yearning to take in every little thing that captures the eye and makes me stop, even for just a minute. I wonder at the greatness of it all and soon smile at my thinking that HE is all. We had the pleasure of a fill-in pastor this Sunday at Paint Lick Christian Church and the sermon message delivered by the Rev. Bryce McCulley was one of deepest thought that has lingered with me all this day. I wish to say “thank you” to both he and his wife who is wonderful on the piano.
We didn’t have a lot of people at church today. I suppose most of them were home discussing the Derby and the tragic passing of the second-place horse. It seems that one horse made more news this whole weekend than any one thing that some might have learned if they had decided to worship with the Lord on His day.
A note to all parents, uncles, aunts and family members. The Garrard County Summer Reading Program is under way and we at Paint Lick Christian Church, once again this year, have a place to hang out with those great ladies from the Garrard County Library.
The Reading Program will be on Thursdays this year and will begin on June 5 at 1:45 p.m. So get your gear together kids, and all you grown-up people also are invited to come share in the reading. I will have more details later or you can call the Garrard County Library at 792-3424 to get a handle on what the surprise theme is for the summer.
The big revival is going on this week at The Old Paths Church of God with the Rev. Walter Jones, his wife Myrtle and Bro. Billy Bryant as the guest speakers. Friday evening is the last night for this great event and I hope everyone will get a chance to go and be a part of their wonderful singing. Starts at 7:30 nightly.
Mark your calendars for another great time at Old Paths Church of God on June 8.  I’ll share more another time.
Doug and I have just finished putting some tomato plants in the big garden over in the field and we were happy to have help from our grandson Ryan, who seems really interested in the garden, and I know he doesn't care that much for vegetables.
He says, “This is one job where I can see the product of my work.” I hope one day he will understand the meaning of “pride.” I think most children today have no idea of the feelings instilled in those kids 25 years ago. Everything has changed.
Happy birthday to Lee Estes of Lexington (grandaughter of Cleone Hagan) on May 8 and to Debbie Parker who shares a birth date with Johnny Day on May 14.
Also to Mrs. Jenny Rayburn, whom I miss seeing around the area, a wonderful day to you on May 15.
To all you mothers out there, have a very meaningful Mother’s Day this Sunday when you give of yourself to make someone else happy, as always.
May God bless.
