The Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Irvine man early Wednesday morning on charges of rape, kidnapping and assault.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at 3:30 a.m. in the area of Panola and Knob Lick, according to sheriff’s office spokesperson Willard Reardon.
When Deputy Tyler Cole arrived, he found Scott Cornett, 44, at the scene along with an adult woman, Reardon said in a press release.
The woman allegedly had been assaulted by Cornett, and he was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault (domestic violence with minor injury) and alcohol intoxication in a public place.
The woman was taken to Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center by Madison County EMS after she told a deputy she had been sexually assaulted, Reardon said.
Detective Todd Allen took over the investigation at that point and after interviewing Cornett, he charged the man with first-degree rape and kidnapping, according to the report.
Cornett was booked into the Madison County Detention Center where he remained as of Thursday afternoon under a $50,000 bond, according to the jail’s website.
The woman was treated and released form the hospital.
