Accident on I-75 leaves two dead

RICHMOND — Two women living in Berea died early Friday morning when their vehicle entered Interstate 75 heading the wrong direction at Exit 87 and collided head-on with a semi-trailer truck.

Christina Blevins, 30, and Penifer McIntosh, 44, were pronounced dead at the scene at by Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison.

The SUV, driven by Blevins, entered the interstate from the north-bound exit ramp at 1:12 a.m. and drove no more than 500 feet before colliding with the truck, the coroner said.

Both were killed upon impact, the coroner said.

Damage to the car was so extensive that determining who was driving the vehicle was difficult, Cornelison said.

The driver of the semi-trailer truck was taken to Pattie A. Clay Medical Center with minor injuries. He was treated and released.

The Richmond Police Department is investigating the accident, said RPD Major Bob Mott.

Blevins was originally from London and McIntosh was from Jackson, Cornelison said.

Toxicology tests will be performed on both victims, he said, but results will not be available for approximately two weeks, the coroner said.

The accident caused the interstate to be shut down for about four hours.
