Powwow, other fall events highlight this week

Paint the Town Pink starts Thursday

RICHMOND —

The event kicksoffs Paint the Town Pink week. See the Richmond Register for other Paint the Town Pink activities and those for the observance of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Thursday

The Kentucky Blood Center will be accepting donations from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Richmond branch of the Madison County Public Library, 507 W. Main St.

Crystal Allen-Daniel will present “Elmwood: The Lives Behind the Mystery” for the Madison County Historical Society’s quarterly meeting 7 p.m. at the Central Bank community room, 305 W. Main St., Richmond.

Thursday-Sunday

Madison Central High School will present their first full-length fall musical, "Into the Woods." Showing times will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and a 3 p.m. matinee Sunday. General admission is $10. For more information call Lisa Jury at 625-6109, ext. 5497.

Friday-Sunday

Fall Swap Days begin Friday at the Madison County Fairgrounds and will continue through Sunday.

 

Saturday

The community of Kirksville will be celebrating the 23rd annual Kirksville Day. Festivities will include a parade featuring tractors, horses, floats, cloggers and more at 11 a.m.

This year’s grand marshal will be country singer Josh Logan, and mayor for the day will be Butch Pennington.

The day will begin with a ham breakfast at the Masonic Lodge. Yard sales will be set up throughout the rural crossroads community. The community center has vendor booths to rent for $10. For more details, call Billie Battles at 859-338-6690.

 

No 'Flash Dance: The Musical'

"Flashdance: The Musical," which had been scheduled for Friday evening and Saturday afternoon at the EKU Center for the Arts, has been canceled.

    The creativity of local artists will be on display Saturday in some of Richmond’s most lush and elaborate residential gardens.

    The annual Art in the Garden Tour sponsored the Richmond Area Arts Council, the Richmond Garden Club and the Riley Oil Company will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Most of the ladies wore extravagant hats, and the men were dressed in rather sporty attire.

    The crowd got misty eyed as they listened to a choir sing “My Old Kentucky Home.”

    And little guys rode horses at an iconic Kentucky location.

    The food was pretty good, too, including the obligatory hot brown and chocolate pecan pie.

    This was neither the Kentucky Derby or Churchill Downs, however.
