Sydney Jones, a sixth-grade student at Clark-Moores Middle School and Katrina Godsey, a fifth-grade student at Model Laboratory School, have been accepted as members of the 2014 Kentucky Children’s Chorus.
Comprised of 200 students from across Kentucky, chorus members are selected through a comprehensive audition process.
Sydney and Katrina are members of the Richmond Area Arts Council’s Treble Clef Youth Chorus directed by Deborah Kidd. Sydney’s music teacher at Clark-Moores is Jeremiah Fowler and Katrina’s music teacher at Model is Betsy Grise.
Sydney is the daughter of Barron and Rebecca Jones of Richmond. Katrina is the daughter of Ande and Jana Godsey of Richmond.
Sydney and Katrina will rehearse with the state honors chorus Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 5-6, in Louisville as part of the Kentucky Music Educators Professional Development Conference.
The Kentucky Children’s Chorus will present a concert at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in Whitney Hall of the Kentucky Center for the Arts.
“We are extremely proud of these two outstanding choral students and know they will represent us well,” said Kidd who also is RAAC executive director.
Concert selections will include “Blue Skies” by Irving Berlin, “Laudamus Te” by Mozart, “America the Beautiful (We Are A People)” by Ruth E. Dwyer and Martin L. Ellis, “Peace Like A River” by Doulas Beam, two Irish Folk songs, “Beidh Aonach Amarach,” arranged by Ruth E. Dwyer and Beverly Hardiman Jones, and “Aikoi Biae” arranged by Angie Broeker.
