Dolly Parton returning to Richmond on May 27

For St. Mark benefit at EKU Center

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — County music legend Dolly Parton, who gave an October 2008 benefit performance in Richmond for St. Mark Catholic Church and School, is returning May 27.

Parton will perform at the EKU Center for the Arts for another St. Mark benefit, said the Rev. James Sichko.

Parton’s management announced Friday that Richmond has been added to her 34-city Blue Smoke World Tour that begins Jan. 24 in Rancho Mirage, Calif., and concludes July 11 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Richmond concert will be the latest in St. Mark’s “Evening Among Friends” series that Sichko initiated in 2004 and has brought a string of big-name celebrities here. In addition to Parton, the list includes Bill Cosby, former first lady Laura Bush, Harry Connick Jr., Natalie Cole and Donny Osmond.

Sichko’s account of how the improbable entertainment series was achieved is contained in a book he published this fall, “Among Friends: Stories from the Journey”
