Puppet parade planned Saturday in Berea

BEREA — The city of Berea will be celebrating Puppets in the Park on Saturday as part of the National Day of Puppetry.

Craft activities will be hosted from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Memorial Park shelter. Children and adults can participate in a puppet craft, and refreshments and materials will be supplied.

Adults should accompany younger children at the craft stations. A large parade puppet-making station is available for older children and adults.

The Puppet Parade Stroll will commence at noon. Organizers encourage participants to bring the puppet they made or one from home to join the stroll. The parade route will be around Old Town.

In case of bad weather or rain, activities will be at the Russel Acton Folk Center.

The event’s sponsors are Berea Parks and Recreation, Puppets and Such, and Old Town Seamstress.

Most of the ladies wore extravagant hats, and the men were dressed in rather sporty attire.

The crowd got misty eyed as they listened to a choir sing “My Old Kentucky Home.”

And little guys rode horses at an iconic Kentucky location.

The food was pretty good, too, including the obligatory hot brown and chocolate pecan pie.

This was neither the Kentucky Derby or Churchill Downs, however.
