Registration open for Fun With the Arts after-school classes

RICHMOND — Registration is still underway for RAAC’s outstanding “Fun With the Arts” after-school classes for students in grades K-5.

Visit www.artsin richmond.org to register or for more information. You may also email debbie@artsinrichmond.org or call 624-4242.

Flyers for the spring 2014 semester were distributed to each child in grades K-5 before Thanksgiving. Classes for the spring 2014 semester were to begin Monday and will follow the Madison County Schools schedule after that date. Parents may register their child at any time throughout the semester.

Students receive a snack and supervised homework time at 3 p.m. and classes are taught from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Parent pick-up is from 5 to 5:15 p.m.

This tuition-based program includes the following classes: Piano; Guitar; Pottery; Drama; Dream, Doodle and Draw; Drawing Like the Masters; The Art of Science; Artistic Life Skills; Create Your Own Games; Art in the Round; Hands on Handchimes; Musical Movement; Young Chef’s Academy; Art Around the World; and Crafty Kids.

Classes in piano, guitar and drama are not available for kindergarten students, but kindergarten students may register for any of the other exciting, educational classes.

Classes are taught by experts in their fields.

Instruction is conducted five days a week at three hub schools: Glenn Marshall, White Hall and Shannon Johnson. Transportation is provided to one of the hub schools from most Madison County Schools.

Students from St. Mark’s, Model, Berea Community, Bluegrass Christian or home schools are encouraged to enroll but must furnish their own transportation.

  • 5-4 Derby Brunch 4 .jpg RAAC gives White Hall its own derby

Most of the ladies wore extravagant hats, and the men were dressed in rather sporty attire.

The crowd got misty eyed as they listened to a choir sing “My Old Kentucky Home.”

And little guys rode horses at an iconic Kentucky location.

The food was pretty good, too, including the obligatory hot brown and chocolate pecan pie.

This was neither the Kentucky Derby or Churchill Downs, however.
