Valley View Ferry is closed because of high water but the ferry is set to be closed longer for cable replacement. The cable repairs are to begin Monday, Jan. 21. "It's going to be a seven- to 10-day job," Madison County Magistrate Roger Barger said. "We are required to inspect the cables every two to three years. These cable last quite a while and I think they were placed in the mid to late 1990s. The reason they're being replaced is, naturally, for people's safety."
