Woman dies in Walnut Street fire

RICHMOND — A woman died in an early afternoon fire on East Walnut Street, according to Corey Lewis of the Richmond Fire Department.

Neighbors told a Richmond Register reporter they heard an explosion before firefighters were called.

The woman’s husband, who neighbors said was at work when the fire started, was seen running toward the home after he was notified.

Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison said a body was being transported to state Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort where an autopsy would be performed Tuesday.

Officials cannot make a positive identification until autopsy results are available, Cornelision said.
