Boil-water advisory lifted for Richmond, but not the county

In effect since Friday evening

RICHMOND —

The boil-water advisory for Richmond Utilities customers was lifted at 3 p.m. Saturday, according to its superintendent, Scott Althauser.

However, the advisory remains in effect for the Kirksville Water Association and Madison County Utilities, the rural utility districts supplied by Richmond.

The rural districts had to wait until Richmond obtained a negative test result before they could run their water tests, which can take up to 24 hours, Althauser said.

Miscommunication between Richmond Utilities and the Madison County Emergency Management Agency caused the EMA to erroneously announce Saturday afternoon that the advisory and been lifted for all three utilities, Althauser said.

The advisory was issued Friday evening after Richmond Utilities suffered waterline breaks on Oakland and Irvine streets. Work on a water tank on the Eastern Bypass prevented the utility from rerouting water and limiting the area under advisory, the superintendent said.
