Bereans to demonstrate in support of fairness ordinance

BEREA — A local group in Berea will be demonstrating prior to the city council meeting this evening (Tuesday) in support of an anti-discrimination ordinance.

According to a press release from Bereans For Fairness, the demonstration will commemorate the second anniversary of the city council’s decision to re-establish a human rights commission in 2011. The commission was formed to study Berea’s need for a fairness ordinance, which would prohibit discrimination in employment, housing and businesses based on sexuality, including sexual orientation. Five cities in Kentucky have passed similar laws, including Lexington, Louisville, Covington and Frankfort.

The Bereans For Fairness rally will be at 6 p.m. in front of the Police and Municipal Building, 314 Chestnut Street, prior to the 6:30 p.m. city council meeting.
