Honoring veterans

Clarence Anthony White IV, left, an Eastern Kentucky University freshman from Louisville, and freshman Tyler Gressle from Boone County place flags Thursday in a planter outside the Powell Building as part of Veterans Day activities. Representatives from the EKU Veteran’s Club, Student Life and EKU ROTC handed out 653 American flags representing each EKU student veteran. Students were encouraged to write messages on the flags before placing them and could also sign postcards thanking soldiers for their service. Throughout the day in Powell Plaza, student volunteers read the nearly 6,000 names of those who have sacrificed their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.
